Storm Tracker Hurricane Sandy

Hurricane Sandy Storm Tracker was the topic of discussion a few days ago in New Orleans and now well into Florida. Not surprising these Gulf States have been hammered here the last few years from one hurricane after another. This monster is threatening 50 million people in the most heavily populated corridor in the nation packing winds of 90 MPH is a Category 1 hurricane.  This storm colliding with a wintry storm moving in from the west a full moon causing higher tides, and cold air streaming down from the Arctic has meteorologists calling it a Frankenstorm.

I’m here on my bicycle, cycling the globe and currently crossing the U.S. On a bike you tend to be a little more nervous when you hear of hurricanes forming, and possibly being in your path. The destruction here from the previous hurricanes is still very visible. Entire neighborhoods still boarded up and abandoned, destroyed businesses and giant trees uprooted. The levee is my bike route here as it is paved on top with a nice path. It’s hard to imagine the water washing right over top of it.

Watching the hurricane tracker, though, it seems Sandy is thankfully changing course towards the Atlantic now off Florida and expected to reach the New Jersey shores Monday night.
